6 Ways Your Clients Can Boost Their Winter Skincare Routine

Winter is here and while we all love snuggling up by the fire on those cozy nights, the cold weather (and the warm temps inside) aren’t doing anyone’s skin any favors. The reality is winter weather is sucking every drop of moisture right out of our bodies, leaving behind dry, dull, and cracking skin. That’s why the time is right to start talking with your clients about ways to change up their skincare routine and infuse it with some moisture from the inside out. Read on for six cool ways they can boost their normal skincare routine when the weather gets chilly.

1. CLEANSE WITHOUT DRYING

It’s especially important in the winter that they don’t strip their skin of any natural essential oils while washing their face. The best way to do this? Double cleansing. They should start with a cleansing oil that bonds with the skin’s natural oils to draw out more dirt, make-up, and pollutants. Step two uses a specially designed herbal toner to thoroughly cleanse and gently exfoliate. We also love the fact that this unique treatment prepares the skin for maximum absorption of serums, creams, and masks—delivering active ingredients where they’re most effective—perfect for moisture-starved skin. Talk to them about the benefits of all-natural ingredients such as nourishing cucumber, dandelion, and hops to restore the skin as they cleanse.

2. MAKE TIME FOR MASKS

There’s no better way to hydrate skin quickly than a mask. All they need is 15 minutes or so to replenish and moisturize dry skin. Masks help create a protective barrier that will also help prevent dehydration. So encourage them to take a few minutes to themselves, relax and let an ultra-rich moisturizing mask soften, soothe and rejuvenate their winter skin.

3. REPAIR AND HEAL WITH SERUMS AND MOISTURIZERS

Bring dull skin to life by starting with a refining glycolic acid peel. Designed to dissolve dead skin and build-up, recommend a product that balances alpha hydroxy acid (to refine the skin’s surface and promote cell turnover), and botanicals such as aloe vera to soothe and protect.

Once the peel has worked its magic, hydrate the skin with a super moisture serum. Serums support healthy collagen and elastin growth while giving the skin a smoother, more supple youthful look. Finally have them finish with a moisturizer designed to condition, protect, and restore their skin from morning until night. Depending on how their skin is handling the cold weather, talk to them about the right formula that promotes deep moisturizing, healing, or balancing properties.

4. DON'T FORGET THE SUNSCREEN

Just because they can’t see the sun, doesn’t mean it’s not damaging their skin. And remind them to include their hands, neck, and face. As far as application goes, the best time to apply sunscreen is during their morning skincare routine, and always use a broad-spectrum product with an SPF of 15 or higher.

5. BE SURE TO COVER UP

When they head outside, point out that using a scarf is for more than just keeping warm. Wrap it around the neck and cheeks to help keep the cold air from hitting the skin and stealing all the moisture from it. Looking for the best solution? 6. EAT WATER-RICH FOODS

This is where the inside out part comes in…they should load up on not only water during the winter, but also add water-rich foods to their diet. If drinking cold water is not their favorite during the winter months, suggest these healthy, hot water-based drinks that are sure to keep them warm all winter long. When it comes to water-dense foods, talk to them about the power of botanicals such as berries, lettuce, celery, or cucumbers.
