Best Northern California Fall Road Trips
Want to be blown away by Mother Nature’s fall display of colors? It’s as easy as jumping in the car and heading out on a road trip. Don’t be afraid to close up that salon for a day or two and check out a few of our favorite destinations for the most scenic displays of fall you’ll find in all of Northern California.
1. Scenic Highway 395
This is arguably the best place for fall foliage in the state. Just east of the Sierras, the Aspen trees growing on the mountainside create a spectacular golden view. While you are in the area, head over to Lake Tahoe. The weather is crisp, tourists are gone, and the fall foliage is in full bloom.
2. Napa Valley
If you’ve never been to Napa post-harvest, you are missing out on one of the most beautiful displays of color changes in Northern California. The vines are changing from green to gold and orange, making for quite a spectacular drive through the valley. Added bonus? The wineries are less busy and post-harvest they have more time to spend with visitors.
3. Yosemite National Park
There is no shortage of mother nature to be found in Yosemite National Park. From towering peaks to rushing rivers, autumn colors are everywhere you look. Spend a day driving through and tour all the iconic spots. The meadows offer golden grasses, while the bright yellow cottonwoods contrast with brilliant reds from the maple trees mixed with dark greens from the pines. You’ll be blown away.
