Everything You Need to Know About Brow Mapping
Thanks to a global pandemic and face masks, the eyes are more important than ever before—and this of course includes eyebrows. Salon closures also mean your clients’ brows are either a bushy crazy mess or over-plucked or waxed. Either way, brow mapping is one way to get your clients brows back on track and bring balance and symmetry to their mask-covered face. Here’s what you need to know to offer brow mapping at your salon.
Brow Mapping Explained
A three-step custom technique, brow mapping is the ideal way to find the perfect shape brow for any face. The process takes you beyond offering typical brow shapes and lets you create a custom shape for each client. And the best part? It helps create the illusion of symmetry even if their face and brows are naturally uneven. The goal is to make sure the brows start, arch and end in the right place on the face.
Using a grid drawn on the upper part of the face with a fine eyebrow pencil or dipped string, mark key points on the face with the goal of finding brow symmetry and lifting the eyes. Some basic suggestions for getting started include:
- Measure straight from the dimple of the nose to the beginning of the brow.
- Seek out the arch by starting at the edge of the nose, then pass through the pupil to the highest portion of the brow.
- Finally, look for the end of the brow by measuring from the outer edge of the nose to the outer corner of the eye.
- Once complete, either fill in or clean up any outgrowth.
Brow mapping can take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour depending on how much brow you are working with, so be sure to leave enough time especially if it’s their first appointment. As long as clients stay on a regular schedule, maintenance appointments will go much quicker.
