4 Things Every Professional Should Know About Hard Wax
Not all wax is created equal, both in quality and how it’s used. And the Wax Queen will be the first to tell you that there is a time and treatment for hard wax. And while you should have both hard and soft wax in your salon at all times, as the expert it’s up to you to know the difference between the two and educate your clients on why you choose a certain wax at certain times. So let’s break it down and take a look at four things every professional needs to know about hard wax.
1. It Doesn’t Hurt More
You’ve probably gotten this question a thousand times, ”Doesn’t hard wax hurt and damage the skin more than soft wax?” The answer is no. Contrary to common perceptions, hard wax isn’t more painful—in fact it’s a great choice for clients with sensitive skin as it’s gentler on the skin. Because hard wax doesn’t require a strip to remove the hair, the hair gets stuck to the wax without sticking to the skin which equals less pain.
2. It’s Your “Go To” Wax for Gentle Areas
Think face, bikini, and underarms when it comes to hard wax. It’s gentler and more effective at removing hair. Plus, you can easily go over the skin a second time to remove any hairs you may have missed without damaging the skin.
3. Temperature Matters
We suggest using a double basin warmer (that holds both hard and soft wax) and then be sure to know the right temperature for each. Use the larger basin for your hard wax and set the temperature gauge to 30 degrees (soft wax should be in the smaller basin and set to 45 degrees). And when using hard waxes such as Berodin Blue, check to see if it’s heated correctly by picking up the wax and balling it up on your spatula. If it runs off, the wax is too hot.
4. No Negatives
The great thing about hard wax is there really aren’t any negatives other than a possible skin allergy. When combined with proper at home pre and post-wax care your clients will walk away with a good wax experience without common issues such as ingrown hairs, bumps and skin irritations.
