The Only Face Waxing Guide You’ll Need

One of the best ways to get all those fine hairs, the brows and the lip waxed all at once is with a face wax treatment. But since the results are front and center so to speak, it’s important to handle this one the right way. From how to apply and then remove the strips (it’s slower than your clients would like), to sharpening your brow and lip waxing skills, the best face wax treatments require some expertise in several areas of waxing.

1. Start with the Right Tools

The best wax treatments start with the best right wax. Berodin Blue is a hard wax designed to provide quick, efficient results and a less painful wax experience, ideal especially for a face, underarms, bikini and Brazilian wax. It only sticks to the hair and not to the skin, and it works well over makeup and oils on the face. Wax temperature is important with face wax treatments as well. Make sure there is a solid center in the warmer, and pull your wax from the outer edges providing the right temperature for spreading on the skin.

Wax application requires the use of various sized spatulas, and the proper technique has a lot to do with the spatulas you use. The disposable spatulas work well for face application, then switch to precision facial spatulas for eyebrows and the lip area.

2. Wax This Way

If your client is wearing light makeup there’s no need to remove it. The face has its own oil, plus Berodin works over oil so there’s no need to strip the skin just to reapply. Just work with what you’ve got. Start on the outside of the jaw line and apply a long vertical strip to either side of the face (you will be working your way towards the center of the face). Do as many as you can at once—starting with the cheeks, upper lip and lower brows. Remove the strip slower than you normally would (think, pull, pull, pull). The goal is to not over-exfoliate the skin on the face. Remind your client that while it may not feel great, you are actually protecting their skin.

Keep working your way towards the nose in vertical strips, while also applying to the top and center of the brows, chin and neck area. Be sure to use firm pressure during the application, especially when using a hard wax. This is how you will remove the fine hairs as well as coarse.

3. Finish Strong

Since it's their face you are waxing, they may be worried about redness, pain and breakouts. The steps you take at the end of your face wax treatment can help with all three.

  • First apply a post-wax essential oil. We recommend adding a few drops to your hands and gently massage into the skin. A post-wax essential oil will promote healing and calm down any redness. Full of plant-based ingredients such as lavender and mandarin oil, it will also deter bacteria while nourishing and softening the skin.
  • Follow with a blemish control gel. Even if they are not prone to breakouts, an acne gel will help keep the follicle clear, suppress bacteria, and jumpstart the healing process. It can also prevent new breakouts thanks to astringent lemon which conditions, tones, and controls oil. It is critical on a full face wax to send your clients home with blemish control gel. Have them use it morning and night starting the day of the wax.
  • Then soothe the skin with a cream like our post wax soothing cream which will help take the redness out of the skin. In just three minutes, the Canadian willow bark will help reduce redness by 40-60%, while other antioxidants, strengthen and protect the skin.
  • Finally, always apply sunscreen. Any body part such as the face that is instantly exposed to the sun can have a reaction or discoloration once exposed to ultraviolet light. With a face wax, sunscreen application is an important final step you should never skip.
